Tom Smith Jr., 42, killed during an apartment search died from a single gunshot wound that apparently went through a small gap in the bulletproof vest he was wearing

 The two officers entered the apparently empty apartment and one officer accidentally fired a shot that wounded the other officer. The suspect was not at home at the time of the shooting. Sgt. Tom Smith Jr., 42, killed during an apartment search died from a single gunshot wound that apparently went through a small gap in the bulletproof vest he was wearing
