9.0 Quake leaves 212,000 dead
People across Asia are flocking to morgues seeking lost loved ones after tsunamis swept across the Indian Ocean
A great undersea earthquake occurred at an epicenter off the west coast of Sumatra. The earthquake triggered tsunamis along the coasts of landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing large people and inundating coastal communities. The tsunami devastated the shores of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand with waves up to 30 m and caused serious damage and deaths as far as the east coast of Africa
